Low broadband in Nigeria reaches less than 44% mobile and 2% fixed internet penetration out of a population of 200 million. This project leverages satellite broadband infrastructure from Eutelsat and Tizeti’s community Wi-Fi management platform to deliver a fast and affordable public Wi-Fi hotspot service in underserved areas in Nigeria. The project seeks to unlock social and economic opportunities, in line with Eutelsat’s ambition to connect one million unserved people across sub-Saharan Africa to high-speed internet over the next five years. It has connected 5,000 users in two States to date. Despite its low connectedness, Nigeria’s foreign direct investment reached $2.4 billion and is expected to increase with improved broadband access, making Nigeria a more attractive destination for foreign investment.
Tizeti is a fast-growing wireless internet service provider in Lagos, Nigeria, delivering high-speed unlimited Wi-Fi internet access to residential and business customers using wide-area Wi-Fi. Its services are available in fifteen states in Nigeria, including Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Edo, Delta, Kaduna, Kano, Rivers, Cross River, Abia, Enugu and Anambra States. It is also expanding rapidly to other African countries, with successful launches in Accra and Tema in Ghana, and Côte d’Ivoire.
