SUSN is an AI-enabled, space-derived innovative technology initiative addressing urban challenges in Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) capital of Nepal.
KMC is home to 1.6 million people and faces chronic traffic congestion every day. Lack of planning, digital information on land use, house information and road mapping has led to unplanned, dense urbanization and ineffective disaster assessment as witnessed during the devastating 2015 earthquake. SUSN directly impacts the lives of all residents by improving their quality of life.
Through strategic partnerships with departments like the City Planning Commission and the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police, SUSN enables effective analysis of traffic, digitization and disaster assessment using satellite imagery and deep learning models to foster sustainable urban development. It utilizes the framework of KMC and aims to expand it to other cities.
Antarikchya Pratisthan Nepal (APN) is a non-profit organization at the forefront of Nepal’s space industry and education.
With a vision to harness the power of space technology for societal benefits, they train the next generation of space leaders and promote space-related awareness. Their international collaborations drive innovative space missions, while their major project SUSN revolutionizes urban planning, transportation, and education in municipalities.
