The illegal trade in wildlife is the second biggest threat to endangered species behind habitat loss and has become rampant online. To cut traffickers off at the point of sale, the Coalition is working with the tech sector through a multifaceted approach, aiming to make Artificial Intelligence smarter with emerging trend data, tapping into 9+ billion users accounts to report illicit wildlife across the web, rolling out training to company enforcement staff, and providing a strong deterrent to traffickers through strengthened wildlife policies and communications. In response to COVID-19, linked to wildlife trade, the Coalition is supporting companies to stop the spread of misinformation for alleged cures made from endangered species, and ensuring strong enforcement against the sale of high-risk live animals to reduce potential zoonotic disease transmission.
