THE A.C.T. PROJECT BY EARTH5R Earth5R, a social enterprise from Mumbai, India, promotes and implements A.C.T., a sustainability project that transforms conventional methods of conservation of the environment by putting citizens and the marginalised communities at the centre of the social change and development process. It works towards mobilizing and strengthening the collective action of women. A.C.T. project identifies common needs across underprivileged groups, develops sustainable business models and trains emerging leaders so that markets are created for sustainable services and products. The A.C.T. project, meaning “Action-Collaboration-Transformation,” was first developed to improve the quality of the environment, status of the underprivileged citizens and reduce plastic waste in a small locality of Powai, Mumbai. The model has now been replicated successfully in over 35 cities across India. The A.C.T. project currently works with a network of 350 ambassadors and a pool of 26,000 citizen volunteers who are reaching to over 1.2 million women and youth with a combination of environmental and livelihood services. The A.C.T. model is replicable to be implemented across the globe.
