Announced in December 2022 at the COP15 in Montréal, the Climate Fund for Nature has been initiated by KERING and L’OCCITANE Group to scale-up investment in nature-based solutions, so the world can meet its climate change, biodiversity, and land degradation targets. To date, the Fund combines ambitious commitments, totaling €140m out of a €300m target, to finance high quality projects worldwide that implement nature-based solutions (reforestation, conservation and restoration of key natural ecosystems, as well as regenerative agriculture and agroforestry projects). The projects supported will contribute to reduce CO2 emissions, protect key ecosystems, and promote women empowerment, by addressing existing gaps related to access to finance, land and training. The fund is managed by the natural capital team of Mirova, an asset manager 100% dedicated to sustainable investing.
The Climate Fund for Nature is a coalition composed of: · Kering, a global Luxury group that manages the development of a series of renowned Houses in Fashion, Leather Goods and Jewelry, · L’Occitane group, a leading international manufacturer and retailer of premium and sustainable beauty and wellness products, · Mirova, a management company dedicated to sustainable investment and an affiliate of Natixis Investment Managers, · Other investors to be announced before the Paris Peace Forum.
The Fund welcomed its first investment, a NGO-led conservation project in Peru that aims to protect 125,000 hectares of forest, avoid more than 1 million tons of CO2, and support 550 households.
