LONDO

The LONDO ("Stand Up") Project is an emergency operation funded by the World Bank to provide temporary employment for poor and vulnerable people in the Central African Republic (CAR). The project aims to contribute to the CAR Government's goal of (i) promoting social cohesion; (ii) improving local governance; and (iii) supporting economic recovery. LONDO is the largest cash-for-work program in the CAR, with a target of 35,500 direct beneficiaries who carry out labor-intensive public works across the country's 71 districts. The selection mechanism (i.e public lotteries), strengthens good governance and social inclusion and ensures that marginalized or vulnerable groups, including displaced people, can benefit equally from this operation. This type of work does not discriminate against gender, and the project's communication strategy encourages women's participation. Implemented by the National Public Works Agency (AGETIP), and supervised by the Ministry of Economy and Planning, LONDO seeks to add to the efforts of the international community in supporting the redeployment of the State and local governance outside Bangui (the country’s capital). LONDO is implemented in close collaboration with development, humanitarian, peace and diplomacy actors to leverage partnerships for faster and agile execution while ensuring the coherence and sustainability of this program.
