The demands on policymakers are increasing worldwide - facing climate change, societal transformation and economic uncertainties, evidence-informed decision-making is more important than ever. However, inadequate data quality and limited data capacities pose critical challenges, resulting in policy designs that fail to tackle existing inequalities. To address this, the Data to Policy Navigator supports policymakers to integrate data into national policies and decision-making processes. It provides step-by-step guidance and tools for using new data such as citizen science, geospatial data and AI to accelerate the implementation of SDGs. Showcased use cases from Mexico, Rwanda, Vietnam, among others, take policymakers through a process for strategically, responsibly and efficiently using data from different sources to address global emergencies.

Organization presentation

This project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. The development of the Data to Policy Navigator was developed by GIZ's Data4Policy Initiative together with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)'s Chief Digital Office. The use cases showcased on the platform have been implemented by different international organizations in collaboration with national government partners.

Impact

With featured use cases from 15+ countries and engagement with 50+ policymakers globally, the Navigator enables governments to use data for better policies and accelerate SDG implementation.
