The Mae La initiative is an innovative approach to empowering individuals living in restricted camp conditions to access better healthcare through greater control over their own information. With the digital ID, participants can accurately share their healthcare records to qualified providers who can then offer them enhanced continuity of care. These same people can further record their livelihood qualifications in the same platform. Upon camp closure, residents without portable control over this information will be exposed to greater threats including exploitation. This ID program is also expected to reduce long-term operational costs and cybersecurity risks for participating organizations. The dual aims of improving service access and safeguarding privacy is possible through the combination of advanced iris biometrics, distributed ledger technologies and operational best practices.
