The initiative was launched in December 2020 as a collective and participatory effort to develop principles and standards to support national and international actors to craft more effective and inclusive approaches to peace. The thought leadership of the initiative is spearheaded by the International Commission on Inclusive Peace and is enabled by a Ministerial-level Steering Committee, a coalition of 120 organisations forming the P4P Stakeholder Platform, a Research Committee of eminent scholars, and a dedicated Secretariat hosted at Interpeace. The process has led to the articulation of a Peacemakers' Covenant which is a framework for action that articulates seven principles as well as a new philosophy, a moral compass and guidance for future peace processes. One month before the launch of the Covenant, the initiative seeks to return to the PPF after being supported by its Scale-Up Program to socialise the emerging principles.
