From Local Insight to Global Impact: Highlighting African AI Innovation at the Ibrahim Governance Weekend

As part of the 2025 Ibrahim Governance Weekend, the Paris Peace Forum and the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) will co-host a high-level session on Artificial Intelligence in Africa. Taking place on Tuesday 3 June from 16:00 to 17:30 at the Palais des Congrès in Marrakech, this discussion will explore how African-led innovation in AI can help bridge the continent’s development gaps and shape a more inclusive global digital future.

Titled “From local insight to global impact: African AI innovation,” the session builds on the outcomes of the AI Action Summit (Paris, February 2025) and aligns with the Ibrahim Governance Weekend’s broader theme “Leveraging Africa’s Resources to Close the Finance Gap.” It will spotlight how AI solutions—when developed by Africans for African contexts—can accelerate progress on key challenges such as economic development, linguistic inclusion, climate resilience, and the energy transition.

While AI development is largely concentrated in the Global North, African actors are showing that homegrown innovation can drive sustainable and inclusive growth. This session will feature voices from across the continent and showcase a standout project from the AI Action Summit to demonstrate the real-world potential of locally tailored AI tools.

Through this discussion, the Forum seeks to promote African perspectives in the global AI debate and encourage continued collaboration to ensure that future technologies reflect diverse knowledge systems, values, and aspirations.
